Microsoft, HTC Reach Patent Licensing Deal for Android Phones
May 07, 2010
Microsoft said on April 28 that it has reached an agreement with Taiwanese Smartphone manufacturer HTC, allowing HTC to use Microsoft technologies in its Android-platform phones, the Seattle Times reported. The licensing deal, coming on the heels of Apple's patent infringement lawsuit against HTC in April, will clear the use of Microsoft patents in HTC's Google Android-based Smartphones. Aside from Android-based devices, HTC is expected to produce phones operating on Microsoft's next-generation mobile platform, Windows Phone 7, too. The licensing deal reached on April 28 is seen to prevent possible patent dispute over HTC's new Windows-based phones.
